What is “majoring”?

Main Post:

When I talk to Americans, when they find out that I am a student they always ask what I'm "majoring in." Which I find a strange question because l'm majoring in art, but l'm studying teaching. Like, I'm getting a Bachelor of Education degree, not any degree related to art.

I've heard Americans say "I'm doing an art major," in order to explain their study. I am too, but that's just 1/4 of my study time and not even part of my degree, I'm also minoring in history, but primarily I'm studying teaching? Is "majoring" just how you guys ask which Bachelors someone is going for?

Top Comment: To Americans, "What is your major?" means "What will your granted degree be?" By your original post and responses to comments, you are not majoring in art, you are majoring in education.

Would you go back and change your college major, and to what?

Main Post:

I'm majoring in finance as an incoming freshman. Taking macro, micro, calculus, and philosophy. My point is would your college education/your major (path of study) have influenced what you pursued a career in, therefore having a better chance of saving/earning more money. I'm new to all this so a few tips would definitely be appreciated.

EDIT: Wow. Thank you all for the responses. You guys are seriously giving me even more to think about and consider. I only had Finance in mind before I posted this thread, now my world is opened to Accounting, Supply Chain, Conputer Science, Economimics, Law... And if an 18 year old kid going to college couldn't get anymore confused lol but seriously thank you!

EDIT 2: Here is a google doc for the list of majors people would have changed to. Thanks to u/willpe8ch for creating it!

EDIT 3: Two weeks into college and i changed my major to biology, pursuing a career in the medical field. Although med school is expensive, the career I'm chasing is something that I'm passionate about and bring really good money.

I occasionally think getting a degree in History was useless. But I'm making $72k for a 181 contracted days. I'd like to think I'd go into finance, though, and have considered getting an MBA.

What is even a good major anymore?

Main Post:

Every time I research a major I'm interested in everyone talks about how useless it is. Ex: Marketing, Business Admin., Economics. What is are some good degrees with nice job security for the future.

Edit: Thank you everyone for all your help I appreciate all of you for taking your time and helping a stranger. I'll take what everyone said into consideration and I think I'm going switch to a MIS degree once I think on it more.

Is Major worth watching?

Main Post:

I was thinking about watching Major and I wanna know if it really is worth the ride as it has slightly more than 150 episodes and I don't wanna waste that much time on an anime I won't like.

Can you guys please list me some spoiler free pros and cons and also tell me what to expect on a fun/emotional/excitement level.

I wanna know the balance of it. Is it like Slam Dunk really comedy heavy or more of a thrilling high paced show with some humor/drama sprinkled in like Kuroko no Basket (kinda into sports anime lately).

My biggest fear is that as baseball is a kinda boring sport it will not really excite me as a sports based show should. Will the actual baseball become repetitive/boring?

Thanks for your answers in advance :)

Edit: Thanks for the replies. As they all were pretty positive I am gonna watch it asap :)

Top Comment: I haven't seen all of Major (still need to finish the last few eps of the last season). But I still feel confident enough from what I saw that YES, it is worth your time. It is a fantastic series, and I loved almost every moment of it. I've only seen a few other sport series (Cross Game, Eyesheild 21, Basquash!) so I don't really have much to compare it too. I don't really watch sport anime to begin with, but years ago someone I was chatting with told me how great the series was, and that I should at least give it a try. And I'm glad I did. I didn't find it really repetitive, considering that every season focuses on a different point in Honda's life (obviously starting when he is very young). I marathoned all the seasons except season 6 (I was having trouble finding the episodes). Its a great show.
